The Course

90% of the Wild Duluth 100K and 50K course follows the Superior Hiking Trail through the city of Duluth.  The course follows the high points and ridges above the northern Minnesota city of Duluth.  Along the course you will find amazing views over the St. Louis River, harbor and city below, rocky outcroppings, numerous streams, huge White Pines and hidden places you never thought you’d find in a city of over 80,000 people.  With excellent access, the course will offer plentiful aid stations and excellent support.  The trail will be rugged, hilly and laced with rocks and roots throughout.  This course will surely challenge the veteran trail and ultrarunner and will provide inspiration to those new to the sport.  Come see it for yourself!

Nope I don’t believe so as everything on the hiking trail has bridges crossing the creeks.

Not every creek. Coffee Creek has no bridge, but unless we get torrential rains you can cross on the rocks and keep your feet dry (which is why there is no bridge). If the creek is running high bushwhacking up stream a yard or so will get you to a crossing spot. This spring someone had rigged a rope to aid in crossing (I live just off this section of trail).

Your feet will get wet from dew though (or will it be snow by then?)- the trail has been fairly well “brushed” but still… also there are sections that are notoriously muddy at times (Between magney-snively and spirit mountain for example, combination of soil type, seeps, etc).

Rocks, roots, steep climbs and mud – what more could a runner ask for? ;->
